이런 저런 생각으로 잠이 오지 않는 새벽.

옛날 기억을 더듬어 보다가 휴대폰 전화번호부에 들어앉은 200여명의 이름을 한 번씩 훑어본다. 그런데 그 이름들을 둘러봐도 '대체 우리가 친한 적이 있었나?' 하는 이상한 의문만이 자꾸 커져만 간다.

함께 할 땐 단짝 친구였던 것 같은데 마치 이름들이 서늘한 거리에 늘어서 있는 것 같은 낯선 기분. 함께 웃고 울고, 애증의 굴레 속에 항상 묶여 있을 것만 같던 그 이름들이 하나도 내 맘 속에서 가까워지지가 않는다. 없으면 죽을 것 같던 이름들도 이젠 아무렇지도 않는 아득한 보통명사가 되어 버렸다.

"현재에 충실하라."
이 말이 오늘처럼 이렇게 선명하게 다가올 줄 몰랐다. 과거는 빛이 바래져 초라할 뿐 더 이상 날 감동시키지 못한다.
'아마도 그 때는 그 때 였기에 그렇게 할 수 있었겠지.' 라며 애써 눈을 감는다.

[오늘의 추천곡]

오늘의 추천곡은 1996년 데뷔한 미국 4인조 락 밴드 ‘Staind’(스테인드)의 2001년에 발매한 3집 [Break The Cycle]의 수록곡 ‘Fade’이다.

‘Staind’는 하드 락(Hard Rock) 스타일의 음악을 하는 밴드이다. ‘Staind’ 음악을 포스트 그런지(Post Grunge), 얼터너비브 메탈(Alternative Metal), 뉴 메탈(Nu Metal) 장르로 분류하기도 한다.

3집 앨범은 빌보드 차트 앨범 차트에서 정상을 차지하였을 뿐만 영국에서도 앨범 차트 1위를 기록했고 수록곡 중 ‘It’s Been Awhile‘은 빌보드 양대 락 차트(Mainstream 20주간 1위 / Modern 16주간 1위)를 폭격하였고, 싱글 차트도 5위까지 올라갔을 정도로 엄청난 히트를 기록했다. 또한 ‘Limp Bizkit’의 ‘Fred Durst’와 함께한 ‘Outside’란 곡도 큰 인기를 얻었었다.

‘Staind’는 보컬리스트 ‘Aaron Lewis’의 매력적인 목소리와 어두운 기운이 역력한 헤비한 락 사운드가 인상적인 밴드인데, 거칠고 어두운 사운드 가운데서도 뚜렷한 멜로디가 있어 다른 밴드와 차별되는 매력을 발산한다.

‘Fade’란 곡을 오늘의 추천곡으로 고른 이유는 곡도 좋지만 제목이 ‘바래다’라는 의미를 지녔기에 여느 때와 마찬가지로 끼워넣기 신공으로 추천하는 바이다.
